Hi, I’m JoLae.
A story that has stayed with me since childhood is The Velveteen Rabbit. The idea that we become more “real” through love, connection, and being truly seen has always felt deeply true to me—and it’s at the heart of how I approach therapy. I believe healing isn’t about becoming someone new, but about gently returning to yourself with more compassion, understanding, and emotional connection.
In our work together, my hope is that you feel less alone in what you’re carrying, and more deeply seen and understood. I create a space where you don’t have to have it all figured out, where even the parts of you that feel overwhelmed, stuck, or hard to explain are welcome. Many of the people I work with have spent a long time trying to “push through” or make sense of their inner world on their own—often feeling frustrated or disconnected in the process. Together, we slow things down so you can begin to understand yourself in a way that feels clearer, more grounded, and more supportive.
Before becoming a therapist, I had a career in the performing arts, dancing on cruise ships and in production shows. That experience gave me a deep understanding of high-pressure environments, nonlinear schedules, and the emotional demands that can come with creative and performance-driven work. Originally from Oklahoma, I now enjoy a quieter life outside of therapy—spending time with my family, dogs, and chickens, practicing yoga, and finding joy in simple, everyday moments.
My Approach
My work is rooted in an attachment-based approach and integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Together, we explore the emotional dynamics at the heart of your relationships and personal struggles, helping you better understand your patterns and respond to yourself and others with more compassion and intention.
I believe in the inherent goodness within each person and that every protective response or symptom has a positive intention, even when it doesn’t feel that way. A central part of my work is helping you gently get to know these parts of yourself, so you can feel more grounded, more connected, and more like yourself.
As a Level 2-trained Internal Family Systems therapist with additional training in EFT, I take a flexible and holistic approach, meeting you where you are and adapting our work to your unique needs. I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and creatives, including those navigating the emotional and relational challenges that can come with high-pressure or performance-based careers.
